John Kerry, at the Dubai climate talks, made it clear the U.S. is all for cutting down on fossil fuels. He said we’ve got to stop using coal, gas, and oil big time if we want to keep global warming under 1.5 degrees Celsius. The world’s already warmer by 1.2 degrees, and things are getting dicey. He also mentioned we need tech to trap carbon emissions, especially from industries like steel and cement. Some countries are really pushing to ditch fossil fuels at COP28, especially small islands scared of rising seas. But oil-rich countries aren’t too happy about it. Kerry didn’t give a timeline, but he said moving away from fossil fuels is a must to hit net zero emissions by 2050. He’s optimistic though, seeing how much we’re investing in renewable energy.
